What is Health Services Management?

When you visit a doctor's office or hospital, you will likely interact with a receptionist, a nurse, a doctor, or maybe a radiologist or other specialist. But behind the scenes, there is a health care administrator making sure the facility runs smoothly.

There are many more examples of what job you can have as a Health Care Administrator but here are a few:

    -Medical Records Clerk

    - Front Desk Clerk (checking-in patients, processing payments)

    - Referral Coordinator (when your doctor sends you to a specialist)

    - Patient Advocate (where you facilitate patient complaints and try to remedy them with your facility)

    -Processing Insurance Claims

Health care administration sits at the convergence of business and medicine. It is a field where you can apply your leadership and organizational skills to make a real difference in people's lives.

Here are some essential skills you need for Health Care Administrations:

    -Budgeting: deliver quality health care while meeting financial goals.

    - Patient care: understand best practices to help improve the patient experience.

    - Health Law and Policy: keep up with the latest legal changes to ensure your facility operates legally.

    - Software: billing and coding software, as well as the electronic record systems, help keep records and bookkeeping organized.

Did you know?

Healthcare administrators do not just work in clinics or hospitals. You can also work in nursing homes, pharmaceutical companies, behavioral health clinics, many administrative government positions, nonprofits, and consulting firms for a few.
